Al Sproul told me about this site - excellent. Was a Pleiku Nav from Nov, 68 until July, 69. Then the rest of the time the TS war in Laos out of Udorn until late Nov, 69. Mostly the PDJ, LS 20a, a couple to LS 85, and other interesting SPOOKY missions. Wasn't aware of Spooky happenings in Vietnam once at Udorn - seems like SOS transitioning to other gunships then. Came in country with Jim Pitches, the golden voice of the Delta. Flew a couple of missions at the same time in the PDJ before he returned to Binh Thuy and was shot down. Will try to make Las Vegas next year. Pat

I served in the infantry in Vietnam and returned home only to suffer from PTSD even until now. I was able to talk myself out of ending my dreams of hell many times. Seeing news reports of so many new vets returning home, only to end their lives, finally drove me to write a book (My Life, My Hell This Gruntâ??s Journey Back to the World). I wrote it as an outreach to my fellow Vietnam Veterans and our new returning veterans in order to help them heal from PTSD, for their families and friends to understand why we suffer. I also charge America to give Korean and Vietnam Veterans the long overdue respect and honor deserved for their service. The book can be located on the net by searching my complete name.

My father TSgt. James E. Gilmore, served on the first AC-47 Spooky Crews that went to Vietnam in November of 1965 to November of 1966. He was a Flight Mechanic/Flight Engineer. He was awarded The DFC and Air Medal. Of any of those out there on your list who served with him please e-mail me. He would love to hear from any of you. He was very good friends with a number of the crew members who were shot down on an AC-47 Gunship on Dec. 24 1965. I believe to this date none of the crew members or aircraft were ever recovered. If any one has any information regarding the aircraft that was shotdown it would be appreciated. He is currently 81 years old, living in Minnesota and is looking foreword to the Spooky Reunion this coming September in Ft. Walton Beach area. Regards, Jim Gilmore (Son) Thanks to all of those who served on the Spooky Crews. I hold you all in high Honor.

My dad, Jim Gilmore, was a flight engineer on "Puff" in Vietnam 1965. He's now 81 and living in Minnesota. Hopefully I can talk him into coming to the reunion. His good friend Bill Colwell was part of the crew that was lost on Dec. 24th, 1965. Initially he was to have been part of that crew. It is always with a heavy heart, but endless thanks for all the sacrifices many have made. May God Bless you all!

The web site specialoperations/spooky.htm does not contain a complete listing of Spooky flight crews. I was a FM at Danang in 68-jan. 69 and I'm not listee as well as a few others I knew or flew with such as Maj. Harrid (pilot), Dave Heilman(gunner) and Heiznez a.k.a. the mad russian (loadmaster).

Mike Flurry said:   March 30, 2011 1:22 pm PST
For Max McGoldrick. When Obama and congress extended the Bush tax rates they did not include the tax CREDT that was also in the Bush law, resulting in a $500.00 to $600.00 tax increase for us rich retired guys. Also for John Pitts. Thanks for the spec. ops. web site, but the flight crew list is not complete. I was a FM at Danang from Jan. 68 to 69 and am not listed as well as a few others I remember such as, Maj. Harrid (pilot), Haeznez a.k.a. the mad Russian (loadmaster) and Dave Heilman (aerial gunner). I'm sure it's an administrative oversight but it bothered me at first because they sure knew my name when it came to wavering my flight time every month.

Hey Spooks, The Air Commando Association is selling a Spooky license plate depicting 770 in firing mode. You can visit their web site for a look at and/or call the office at 850-581-0099 to order. It's pretty neat and I understand that this might be a one time order because of copyright restrictions. Enjoy! Hope to see you at the next reunion at FWB.

Just found out about your site and the upcoming reunion at Branson. In 1967 I was SELECTED! to take the engins build-up shop from Clark to NaTrang. Twenty-seven hard working troops moved the shop to NaTrang in order to prevent down time waiting on engines. In the eight months I was there we built up and tore down over 200 engines for your Spookies. Best tour I ever had!! Lou Miller, the supply man, and myself have located about 12 of the 27, and still looking. We'd sure like to be in Branson, but the time line is short, as we just found out about the reunion. I'm sure there will be more, so we will plan on the next one, and pass the site on to others. Regards, John Hille, USAF Ret.
